Research into the complex process of sediment spillage

Newly appointed visiting academic, John Lewin, co-authored a recently published paper with P.J. Ash worth and R.J.P. Strick 2017.

The paper, titled ‘Spillage sedimentation on large river floodplains‘ was featured in Earth Surface Processes and Landforms discusses the ways in which sediment is spilled from large rivers across their floodplains.

Below is an image is from the River Amazon at flood time showing how complex the process is – with streams of sediment flooding through levees and into floodplain lakes.

You can read the paper online.
