Flood histories fieldwork at Whanganui River continues

As part of his appointment with Massey University, Mark Macklin (Head of the School of Geography) continues his pioneering work into reconstructing flood histories in Whanganui, New Zealand.

Recent core samples (pictured) promise excellent chronology as they show beautiful flood units which contain plenty of organic material (being wood and charcoal) for radiocarbon dating purposes.

We will continue to provide more updates on Mark’s exciting fieldwork.
